Resolving Conflicts

 “You are a department manager in a mid-sized company that provides technology support services.  You have ten employees who are required to maintain a high level of technical expertise and deliver excellent customer service.  One of your employees, who has been with the company for two years, is performing at a substandard level and you have received numerous complaints from customers and coworkers.  In addition, this employee has displayed confrontational behavior which has created a hostile environment.  You must now meet with this employee and deliver an ultimatum regarding the need for immediate improvement or dismissal.”

As a department manager of a mid size company if I had an employee that was not working according to the company’s guidelines the steps I would take to resolve the issue is as followed: 

I would take to notify the employee of his options of need for immediate improvement or dismissal is to first call the employee into my office.  I will then speak to her/him in a polite and calm manner about the situation at hand since I am aware of their confrontational behavior.  I will focus on the situation at hand and its facts and be rational.  I will stay away from gossips and what else I have heard from other employees.

While interacting with the employee I will be sure that my posture, facial expression and tone is of a calm nature and will be assertive rather than aggressive.  I will then ask for their side of the story and listen to them intently so that I understand what they are saying to my fullest and position. 

Then I will communicate in a clear and positive fashion of what I want.  I will let my employee know that I am willing to be flexible because of their loyalty to the company but will also offer my recommendations and suggestions.  I will also as the employee again what he/she sees that can be done to improve on their current situation to see his/her viewpoint.  This will help me to better understand the employee’s logic and his process in thinking.  Maybe that will also allow me to more easily resolve the issue. 

If the problem is more than I can handle then I will inform my supervisor or whoever is above me to take action.  If the problem gets under control I will notify my supervisor or higher authority of the results and what the employee agreed upon working on. 

I will also inform the employee of the other people I will be notifying so that he/she is not caught off guard or anything of the sort.

In conclusion that is the following method I would use in attempt to resolve a conflict with an employee.

Last is the telephone, which allows one to communicate to one another.  It is one of the oldest technology but remains very efficient.  It was one of the first form of communication that was technological and from that better forms of technology came about.    

The telephone was the first communication technology to connect many globally.  It is the foundation of communication. It is a way you can communicate to anyone at anytime. It has become an advance technology that becomes more advance as the years go by.  

With the development of the cell phone and being able to text, it has allowed one to multi task and communicate with many.  What makes the telephone better than the television, radio or internet is the ability to stay connected.  You are able to listen, view, and communicate on a small gadget.  The telephone has become a necessity globally. It will forever cater to all. 

The telephone has helped connect everyone globally and to be able to understand another culture immediately.  By being able to have a personal conversation with someone adds more feelings and understanding to what is being said.   

As far as technology is concerned the telephone can be used by many in various places and continues to advance. 

Media Maniac: Internet

The internet which connects with many globally.  It is a way you can communicate to anyone at anytime.  You also are given a choice to either listen or listen with visual.  It is an advance technology that becomes more advance as the years go by.  

The internet as well as the television and radio is used to entertain with talk shows, blogs, vast amount of information from various point of views, news, music videos and etcetera. What makes the internet better than the television or radio is that you have an actual visual image, which may help the audience understand better the topic being discussed as well as different point of views on the same topic.  The internet caters to all of its audience rather than a few.

The internet has helped connect everyone globally.  Through various businesses and social networking one is able to understand another culture immediately.  Through email one is able to get in contact with another rather than waiting for moths to receive a mail from a pen pal.

As far as technology is concerned the internet can be used by many in various places and continues to advance.  Watch out world this technology just be here to stay.  

Media Maniac: Television

The television is also used to entertain with talk shows, news, music videos and etcetera. What makes the television better than the radio is that you have an actual visual image, which may help the audience understand better the topic being discussed.  Though the radio is used to entertain especially with music for many but there are also many controversial and informative topics discussed via sports or radio shows. The television is able to better understand the discussion or sports show visually. 

The television also helped bring the nation together during times of depression.  It brought the nation together through the news, stories, and the ability to enjoy a common experience.

As far as technology is concerned the television can be watched and viewed by many in various places.  One is even able to watch television in a car.  Though it is a safety hazard it is nice to have that option.  Because of its continued improvement in the technical area it will never just disappear.    

With the new development of being able to watch television viewings from all over the world, one is able to connect and understand another’s culture through television alone. 

Media Maniac: Radio

The radio is used to entertain especially with music for many but there are also many controversial and informative topics discussed via sports or radio shows. The radio is an old form of technology that has been around for ages.

The radio helped bring the nation together during times of depression.  It brought the nation together through the news, stories, and the ability to enjoy a common experience.  Radio has existed for such a long period because of its ability to grow in places that television nor computers can grow. 

In a car the television is popular but it does not give a driver the same experience as the radio.  Also it is a great safety hazard to the driver.  Because of the many commuters in America the radio and its continued improvement in the technical area it will never just disappear.    

With the new development of the satellite radio one is able to receive an enormous amount of channel selection.  You are able to choose from sports coverage, any kind of music whatsoever, and radio talk shows. 

Given that the radio will be around for quite longer who knows what the new radio technology will be?
